Club History

For more than six decades, the Woman’s Club of Bon Air has served to connect women with each other and to the greater Richmond community.  We welcome you to join us for luncheons, philanthropic activities and excursions around the region.

In 1962, a club notice invited members to a panel discussion focused on preventing “the waste of  brain power.”  It apparently had results — two years later the Bon Air club became the champions of the Women’s Quiz Bowl, a contest from another era that tested members of garden and women’s clubs on their knowledge of the news..

Since its  founding in 1961, the club has grown more diverse in its membership and more adventurous in its activities.  But the underlying mission remains the same. The club promotes cultural, social and civic engagement for the women of Bon Air and beyond.

Luncheons are held monthly from September to May at Willow Oaks Country Club with topics that span strategies for downsizing to learning how to salsa.  Excursions take members to the theater and historic sites around the state.  We also tutor students, collect school supplies and support women through a court-sponsored diversion program.
